Next Son's of the American Legion meeting

June 9th @ 6:00 PM

Commander Seer wants to remind everyone that May 15th the Son's will be hosting the Thursday meal. The guys will be dishing out Fried Balogna, Hamburger or Cheeseburger, Potato Salad, Mac & Cheese, and chips. He went on to say that this will be the last Thursday meal the Son's will be handling this season. "We appreciate your patronage and look forward to serving you next season" said Commander Seer.

Due to circumstances beyond the Son's Control the fun night at Eldora Speedway has been CANCELLED. The Son's apologize for any inconvenience that this may have caused.

May 17th is also Armed Forces Day, and is celebrated on the third Saturday in May.

Created in 1949, and was a result of the consolidation of the military services in the Department of Defense. It was intended to replace the separate Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard Days, but observance of these days, especially within each particular service, continues to this day. Armed Forces Day is celebrated annually on the third Saturday of May, and Armed Forces Week begins on the second Saturday of May and ends on the third Sunday of May. Because of their unique training schedules, National Guard and Reserve units may celebrate Armed Forces Day/Week over any period in May. The purpose of Armed Forces day is to honor Americans serving in the five services - the Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, and Coast Guard.

May 24th, the Squadron will be helping the Boy Scouts at the VA posting the flags at the grave sites. This all starts at 9:00 AM we need your help. Please check your calendar, and volunteer.

May 25th The legioneers will hold theier annual Memorial Day Services starting at 9:00 AM

Memorial Day is May 26th, 2008

"Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday that is observed on the last Monday of May. It was formerly known as Decoration Day. This holiday commemorates U.S. men and women who have died in military service to their country. It began first to honor Union soldiers who died during the American Civil War. After World War I, it was expanded to include those who died in any war or military action." See the history of Memorial Day at Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
